What is bruxism?
Bruxism is involuntary clenching and grinding of the jaw and teeth. Bruxism can happen anytime, but it is most common at night when you are sleeping. Some of the most common symptoms of bruxism include:
• Worn teeth
• Broken dentures
• Frequent morning headaches or migraines
• Aching ears or mild tinnitus
• Sore TMJ (jaw joints)
• Pain and tension in the head, neck and shoulders
• Muscle tightness around the jaws
How do I tell if I have bruxism?
Because bruxism happens most often at night and its symptoms can be associated with other kinds of dental problems, diagnosing it can be difficult. If you experience any of the symptoms above, or if someone has mentioned that you make clicking or popping sounds in your sleep, ask Dr. Dustin Wilde about bruxism.
How can I receive relief from my bruxism symptoms?
If our dentist and team determine that you are suffering from bruxism, there are a variety of treatment options available, ranging from simple relaxation exercises and night guards, to BOTOX® and trigger point therapy. We will examine your mouth and be sure to determine which treatment will be best for you.
