How is sleep apnea treated?
There are multiple ways our dentist and team can help relieve your sleep apnea symptoms. Sometimes, for mild cases of sleep apnea, simple lifestyle changes can help relieve discomfort. For more advanced cases, the use of a specialized sleep apnea device might be necessary.
What are the types of sleep apnea devices?
One of the simplest devices to treat sleep apnea is an oral appliance. This treatment is effective for sleep apnea caused by the soft tissues of the throat “collapsing” or the tongue blocking the airway while you sleep. The oral appliance is a custom mouth guard that gently pulls your lower jaw forward to keep your airway unobstructed, allowing you to get the deep sleep you need.
More acute cases of sleep apnea may require the use of a CPAP (continuous positive airway pressure) machine to help you breathe deeply during sleep. Dr. Wilde will make sure to recommend the option that will be best for you.
