What Is A Dental Bridge?
A dental bridge is a permanent dental appliance that we use at Advanced Family Dental Care to replace one or more missing teeth. The type of dental bridge you need will depend on which teeth are missing. Our talented dentist, Dr. Dustin Wilde, will determine which kind of dental bridge will work best for your smile after a careful examination. A traditional dental bridge consists of two dental crowns that anchor a false tooth known as a pontic. Together, they bridge the gap in your smile caused by a missing tooth.
Generally, applying a dental bridge in Anchorage, Alaska, takes two visits to our office. During the first visit, we will ensure your gums have healed properly after the tooth has been lost, and we will take molds and impressions of your smile. The necessary components for your custom-made dental bridge are then created at a dental laboratory. Once prepared, two dental crowns are placed on the teeth adjacent to the missing tooth and the pontic is examined for quality and fit. When Dr. Dustin Wilde finishes any necessary adjustments, the bridge is cemented into place. Our dental bridges, when taken care of properly, are designed to last for 5 to 10 years.
